Who This Migration Fits

SiteGround’s StartUp plan ($2.99 intro, $17.99 renewal) suits small sites with under 10GB storage needing predictable uptime (100% over 30/90/365 days). The 83% intro discount is steep, but renewal jumps 6x—budget accordingly.

Pre-Migration Prep

  1. Back up everything (files + database) from your current host.
  2. Lower DNS TTL to 300 seconds at least 24h before cutover.
  3. Note credentials: SiteGround uses native WordPress tools (no cPanel), so migration plugins like Duplicator work.

Moving Files + Database

No free migration service is listed in the data pack—you’ll DIY or use a plugin. Options:

  • Manual transfer: SFTP files to SiteGround’s server; export/import database via phpMyAdmin.
  • Plugin: Migrate Guru or All-in-One WP Migration (check compatibility).

Test the site using SiteGround’s temporary URL (no DNS change yet). Verify:

  • TTFB (1621ms in our tests)
  • Fully loaded time (3456ms)
  • No broken links/plugins.

Final Cutover

  1. Update DNS to point to SiteGround’s nameservers (provided after signup).
  2. Monitor uptime: Their 100% track record suggests reliability, but have support contacts (24/7 live chat/phone) ready.
  3. Cancel old host only after 48h of stable operation.

Warning: Renewal pricing ($17.99 vs. $2.99) may warrant re-evaluating at year’s end.
